Firstly, any of you who have not yet booked your hotel and made your travel arrangements should do so without delay. The draft Agenda for the Arusha meeting is attached and copied below, although we will remain flexible and will adjust it as necessary to deal with any issues as they arise. The main aim of the meeting is for each chapter team to work at revising their drafts so that they will be ready to deliver a first draft to me by 1 October. In particular having all the chapters together will allow us to tackle omissions and overlaps more easily. We will also be considering any cross-cutting issues between chapters, such as how to deal with uncertainties. One of the things you should do before you come to Arusha is to read the Uncertainties guidance paper prepared by Richard Moss and Steve Schneider if you have not already done so. You will notice from the Agenda that a CLA from each of the chapters will be expected to make a short presentation on the first morning. I thought it might be helpful to give a few ideas about what that presentation might contain. The presentation should outline the scope of the chapter and give an update on progress, including any outstanding issues that remain to be resolved. In addition, I think it would be useful if you could also highlight what you think the (1 ñ 5) most important new (since SAR) scientific findings are in your chapter, and why. Also what you think the (1 ñ 5) most important current messages or overall findings are going to be from your chapter. These will be particularly helpful to the Technical Summary team as it begins its work to distill the chapters and will also be useful to you as Lead Author teams to ensure that your chapters are indeed bringing out these key messages and new findings. Another important way of doing this is through the Executive Summaries for your chapters. It would also be very helpful therefore if all chapters could have at least a zero order Executive Summary by the time of the Arusha meeting. Thank you all for your continuing hard work and I look forward to meeting you again in Arusha.
