They are also accessible via the NERC Website and will form the basis for discussion at the half day (pm) Science and Technology Board meeting here in Swindon on Thursday 10 January. Council has agreed the basic framework of both documents and so the main aim of the 10 January meeting is to address the following key issues relating to the SIS: - are the key themes identified the right ones and if not what should they be? - are the research priorities identified the right ones for the next 5+ years? - given the widely held view that NERC is trying to cover too much ground scientifically, where should resources be targetted ie from what areas of science should NERC reduce or withdraw investments and why? Five Council members will be attending (Malcolm Anderson; David Read; Robin Bidwell; John Beddington and Trevor Davies) whilst 4 STB members cannot make it (Howard Roe; John Pyle; Terry Brown; Chris Rapley). I am also hoping that Mike Tricker, David Lynn, Helen Thorne and SPD Heads of Team will be able to attend. Research Centre Directors who are not members of the STB but would like to attend on 10 January should let me know immediately.
