date: Tue Aug 17 15:50:01 1999 from: Tim Osborn subject: discussion on climate change detection to: a.kendall@uea Dear Alan I arrange seminars here in CRU at various times; most are to report research results, but occasionally we have a 'discussion seminar'. For those, the format is for one or two people to start the discussion off with 10-15 minutes presentation, then to involve everyone in the discussion not just the speakers. Peter Thorne, a postgrad in CRU working on the detection of climate change signals, has offered to lead a discussion seminar on detection of anthropogenic climate change. When I asked if a second person might make the discussion more interesting, your name was suggested. Would you be interested in this? The topic of the seminar wouldn't be "does the enhanced greenhouse effect exist?", but more along the lines of "how do we detect climate signals (methods/data), have any signals been detected already, and where do we go from here?". If you are interested/willing, then we have three possible dates in September (it's a busy month!). Wednesday 8th, Thursday 9th, or Wednesday 29th (PM). Best regards Tim
