cc: Kevin Trenberth , "Klein Tank, Albert" date: Mon Nov 29 11:14:18 2004 from: Phil Jones subject: WG1 IPCC Chapter 3 to: "Parker, David (Met Office)" , "David Easterling" Dear All, Thanks for the contributions to sections 3.2, 3.3 and 3.8. Over the weekend, I merged all three, together with Kevin's 3.1 and my non-existent 3.9. Later today I will have the references in alphabetical/date order and will add that to the file. I will spend all my spare time this week going through the text, eventually beginning on the bits of 3.9 I can begin to summarize. With the sections in order it should be easy to merge in sections 3.4 to 3.7 from Kevin with his reference file in 2-3 weeks time. I then plan to send the whole thing to all for a read through around mid-December (15-17 if possible with Kevin) as agreed. Albert sent me this bit of info. It would be useful, if David and Dave could summarize for their parts. You sort of did in your emails, but not so concisely. This will enable simple modification of our CA list. Contributing Authors to the draft version of 3.8 are: L. Alexander, H. Allexandersson, M. Beniston, N. Dotzek, C. Frei, J. Grieser, P. Groisman, K. Kunkel, C.Y. Lam, N. Nicholls, I. Simmonds More information is expected from: Japanese / Chris Landsea on Hurricanes Atlantic & East Pacific Dan Cayan on Drought USA for BOX Peter Ambenje on Floods Kenya for BOX Panmao Zhai on extreme event Asia for BOX Lisa Alexander et al. global indices paper (in prep.) Regional indices workshops Nicolai Dotzek / Rudolf Brazdil on SCSWP When /if the additional information arises can you send me summaries and I'll merge into the master file for 3.1-3.3 and 3.8-3.9/Appendices. It would be useful to send reminders to all those in your sections that are late and thanks to those that have sent material. Say we will likely be in touch again, when responding to comments at the various draft stages. As for Figures, send these when available. David has sent some and put placeholders in from the TAR for some. I plan to put these all at the end, although at the moment those in 3.2 are embedded. I'll sort that later. Don't forget captions for them ! For these sections I have so far, there are 43 pages in the file. References will be another 20 at least. On references, Kevin and I agree we have too many. Rather than try to reduce them for the ZOD (or maybe even the FOD) we plan to keep them, as it is likely if we take some out reviewers will want them back. I won't be bothering to do anything additional to the references such as getting them into a common format for the ZOD. I will tidy up a few, but that will be all.
